Date: 13/12/2019

A fun packed Christmas Fair was recently held at Blaenau Ffestiniog Community Centre which was organized by the young members of the Stiniog Ni community group, with the support of Alaw Paul, Youth Support Worker from Gwynedd Youth Service.

There was plenty of fun to be had on the night, with a Santa's grotto for children, a raffle, tombola and stalls. Donations for the raffle were provided through the generosity of local businesses, family and friends. Mared Jeffrey and Emily Evans, one of the organizers, also sang a few songs on the night.

The aim of the evening was to raise money for Cancer Research UK and a local charity, Cylch Coch. Cylch Coch is a charity that aims to tackle period taboo and poverty in north Wales by sharing menstrual goods and information. The Christmas Fair raised over £230 to be shared between the two charities.

Cai from Stiniog Ni said, "We couldn’t have done this without Alaw, we need to say thank you. I really enjoyed this experience. ”

Alaw Paul, Youth Support Worker with Gwynedd Youth Service said, “I and the Stiniog Ni crew are so grateful for the support of the local community on the night, and also extremely grateful to the local businesses, family and friends who provided free prizes for the raffle.

“The young group have put so much time into organizing this event and I am very proud of what they have achieved. I can't wait to see what they are going to do next and I look forward to supporting and working with them again. ”

Councillor Dilwyn Morgan, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: "It's great to see an event like this again here in Gwynedd where young people have taken the initiative in organizing an event for the benefit of the community and good causes.

“I would like to thank the crew of Stiniog Ni for organizing the evening, to Alaw from Gwynedd Youth Service for supporting them and of course to everyone who supported the event. Well done everybody."

Stiniog Ni is a group of young people from Blaenau Ffestiniog who have come together to organize events for the benefit of the community. This is the second project they have been working on. A sponsored walk was organized for the Fire Service during the summer.
