Digital Gwynedd on shortlist for national award

Date: 19/01/2018

The Digital Gwynedd scheme which helps local people and businesses to use the internet, has been shortlisted for a national third sector award in Wales.

The scheme, which is delivered by Citizens Online in partnership with Gwynedd Council, has made the shortlist the Third Sector Awards Cymru in the Digital Inclusion category.

Free sessions are available in Gwynedd to enable people to improve their online and I.T skills. Digital Gwynedd also looks for better ways to upskill and empower staff and volunteers to become ‘Digital Champions’; who are crucial to motivate and support others in the community with technology. They have recruited 140 champions since January 2016.

Councillor Craig ab Iago, the Gwynedd Cabinet Member responsible for tackling deprivation said:

“Digital Gwynedd is an important scheme that offers practical help for residents from all over the county. As a Council, our aim is to ensure that everyone in Gwynedd has a real opportunity to benefit, and to make the most of what the latest technology has to offer.

“It’s fantastic to see Digital Gwynedd being recognised in these national awards, by being shortlisted.

“As well as helping people to use the internet, information is also provided so that residents are able to make the most of the Council’s online services too – such as applying for housing benefits, paying council tax, ordering recycling bins or booking a fitness session at your local leisure centre and much more. It’s all available at the touch of a button.”
