A booklet that offers residents ideas about how to look after their mental wellbeing has recently been launched at an event in Porthmadog.

The aim of the ‘Looking after myself’ booklet is to present information about what is available in Gwynedd communities. The details have been collected by the Gwynedd Health and Wellbeing Learning Partnership which draws together a number of key organisations from across the county.

During the official launch at Porthmadog’s Glaslyn Centre, TV presenter Alun Elidyr and local Bollywood star, Nesdi Jones talked openly about their experiences of discussing their mental health.

Chloe Roberts, Wellbeing Officer with Gwynedd Council and Gwynedd Health and Wellbeing Learning Partnership Coordinator said:

“Mental health and wellbeing issues can affect us all at some point in our lives. It is encouraging to see that more and more people are willing to talk about their experiences and we were delighted that Nesdi Jones and Alun Elidyr were so willing to speak publicly about their experiences during the launch of ‘Looking after myself’.

“The aim of our work with this booklet is to highlight the range of different services available across the county and doing so by following the ‘five ways to well-being’ developed by Public Health Wales. Our aim is to encourage people to think of ways of looking after themselves. ”

The booklet is available from GP’s surgeries and libraries across Gwynedd, the Council’s Siop Gwynedd facilities and locations such as Storiel and Pontio.

An electronic copy is also available from

The ‘Looking after myself’ booklet has been prepared by the Gwynedd Health and Welfare Learning Partnership which includes Gwynedd Council, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Public Health Wales, Mantell Gwynedd, Bangor University and Coleg Menai.
