Tourism campaign launched to attract tourists to North Wales this winter
Local Authorities in north Wales are collaborating on an exciting campaign being launched next week (12 November) to encourage tourism across north Wales during the winter season.
‘Get Wrapped Up’ targets audiences outside of Wales; particularly Manchester, and promotes the array of adventure, food and drink, accommodation, and events on offer across north Wales during the winter months.
The campaign is funded by the Welsh Government Regional Tourism Engagement Fund (RTEF). Conwy County Borough Council lead the project and are joined by Gwynedd Council, Isle of Anglesey County Council (IACC), and North East Wales Destination Partnership (Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham) to boost tourism interest all year round, working closely with Visit Wales.
This joined-up approach is one of the first of its kind for the region, with all six local authorities coming together to work on one regional campaign for the benefit of the North Wales economy to help bring new visitors at what can be the most challenging time of the year for the tourism industry. It will include radio campaigns, social media promotions, travel and trade opportunities for journalists and a range of resources for businesses to use.
There has already been a positive reaction to the campaign from businesses across the region, with many already supporting the campaign. Businesses large and small across north Wales are being urged to get involved to promote their own products and services to a wider audience this winter.
Councillor Ioan Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “I’m pleased that we are able to build on our strong relationships with neighbouring councils in our work to further boost for the local tourism sector.
“This project adds to the work we have been doing in Gwynedd to extend the tourism season and underline the fact that this is an area that can be enjoyed all-year-round. With a range of exciting events and outdoor activity destinations, this campaign also highlights the fantastic range of shops, restaurants, luxury hotels we offer in this wonderful part of Wales.
“This latest campaign forms part of our joint efforts to extend the tourism season that will provide a welcome boost for the local economy and help to provide employment opportunities throughout the year.”
Speaking on behalf of the project, Cllr Louise Emery, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said, “We’re delighted to be involved in this project and would encourage as many business as possible to get involved in the campaign. It’s a great opportunity to take advantage of the initiatives that will be taking place throughout the winter season for the benefit of tourism in Conwy County and North Wales.”
Anglesey’s Major Projects and Economic Development portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said, “We’re pleased to be working with our partners across the region to promote and boost the North Wales Tourism sector and the fantastic offer we have across the region all year round. We have amazing attractions, beaches and landscapes on offer for tourists during the winter and many hidden gems to discover too.”
“Ensuring an all year round tourism economy is a priority and the “Get Wrapped Up” campaign will help achieve this. Having an all year offer is also key to attracting more people to work in the tourism sector and creating secure employment and more career progression opportunities.”
Lynette Esposito, owner of The Elm Tree hotel in Llandudno said: “This is a great initiative to help us through the winter months- we could all do with that extra push this time of year. We’ll be supporting the campaign on our social media channels.”
Gemma at GYG Karting said: "Get Wrapped Up is a fantastic idea and we’d like to thank the support of the local authorities combined- it means so much to local businesses throughout the winter months.
We are an outdoor tourism attraction, open all year round in all weathers so we’ll definitely be involved in Get Wrapped Up to shout about our attraction!”
