Al Lewis returns to his roots
A popular musician will bring some early Christmas magic in a concerts at a Llŷn church.
“Nadolig efo Al Lewis a’r Band / Christmas with Al Lewis and the Band” will be held at Llanengan Church on 30 November. This special event will see Al come home to Llŷn to perform.
Hunaniaith – the Gwynedd Welsh language initiative – has supported parishioners to organise the concert as a way of promoting Welsh-language activities in this part of Llŷn.
The musician Al Lewis is well-known for his popular songs Llosgi and Heulwen o Hiraeth, and most recently for being one of the team that adapted Kate Roberts’ classing Te yn y Grug for the stage for the National Eisteddfod’s 2019 show. Last year he released his fourth Welsh-language album – Pethe Bach Aur – which includes a duo with the singer Kizzy Crawford from Merthyr.
Al said: “I’m very much looking forward to coming home to perform on Llŷn and especially so in such as charming setting as Saint Engan’s Church. It will be a special evening I’m sure.”
Councillor Dewi Roberts, the local Gwynedd Council member for the Abersoch area added: “Al is a local lad from Llanengan who has made his mark in the professional music world and we are so proud to be able to welcome him home for this special evening.
“I’m sure Llanengan’s historic church will be full to the rafters as people will enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.”
Proceeds from the evening will go towards Saint Engan’s Church. Tickets are £12.50 from Londis, Abersoch, Siop Llangian and BBs hairdressers on Cardiff Road, Pwllheli. Tickets are selling fast so people are urged to buy them before hand to avoid disappointment.
