Further Development of the Gwynedd Marine Code
Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC is teaming up with Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum to further develop the Gwynedd Marine Code to ensure a sustainable future for the Gwynedd coastline.
Following on from the successful launch of the updated Gwynedd Marine Code in 2016, the Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC has a vision to further develop the code through the use of mapping.
Maps can provide information on both areas and times of year certain marine species can be particularly sensitive to disturbance, allowing marine users the opportunity to plan their journeys in order to minimise negative impacts. This approach has been successfully adopted in areas such as the Great Barrier Reef and closer to home, in Pembrokeshire.
Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum developed the Pembrokeshire Marine Code in 2002 and are now collaborating with the Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC on the Gwynedd Marine Code project.
This project initially focuses on two areas of the Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau, Abersoch and Aberdyfi.
The following events are being held to provide more information about the project and to gain feedback on the drafted maps and associated supporting materials.
Events are as follows:
Wednesday 13 November 2019, 4-7pm: Neuadd Dyfi, Aberdyfi, LL35 0NR
Thursday 14 November 2019, 4-7pm: South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club, Abersoch, LL53 7DP
It is vital that the development of the Marine Code works for both the community, land-owners and wildlife. The project needs to be shaped and supported by local operators and stakeholders. If you are interested in finding out more and shaping the future of the Gwynedd Marine Code, come along to an event.
