Padarn Park waves the Green Flag

Padarn Country Park, which is run by Gwynedd Council has secured the green flag for public parks yet again this year.

Situated in 800-acres in Llanberis, Parc Padarn welcomes Gwynedd residents and tourists to enjoy spectacular scenery across Llyn Padarn towards Dolbadarn Castle on to the magnificent mountains of Snowdonia.

The park is home to a range of attractions, including Ysbyty’r Chwarel - a historic museum that reflects hospital life in the 19th century, Padarn Lake railway, a ropes and adventure course for children and adults, and Padarn water sports centre as well as the National Slate Museum which is also situated nearby.

The Green Flag gives recognition and awards to the best parks and green spaces in the country as well as encouraging improvement to the quality of green spaces. The fact that Parc Padarn has secured the Green Flag confirms that the park is of national standard for Country Parks and Green Space.

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies who is responsible for Gwynedd Council’s Country Parks said:

“We are extremely pleased that the park has secured green flag recognition. This prestigious award shows just how Gwynedd takes pride in the fact that we have this wonderful park, which offers an unique experience for Gwynedd residents and visitors alike.

“The fact that the park has secured the award once again, confirms that Parc Padarn offers a warm welcome and is a park that is well managed which benefits the local community.

“Securing this status is recognition of the hard work and dedication of the park’s staff. It is a clear sign that the Park offers a
fantastic experience.”

In order to secure the Green Flag Awards, a site must be freely accessible to the public, and provide a welcoming and well managed space for their local community. Sites are judged each year by a network of over 600 green space professionals; each winning site is entitled to fly the Green Flag as recognition of their status.

Winning the Green Flag Award promotes that the park is a welcoming, clean and a spectacular place to visit.

Padarn Park is open daily throughout the year. For more information on Padarn Park or other parks that are run by Gwynedd Council, visit our website and click on ‘Leisure, Parks and Events’ on the home page.
