How projects were selected
A regional competitive bidding process was established for the allocation of UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) funds to projects in excess of £250,000. The first call for project outline applications in North Wales closed on 24 February 2023, and 114 applications were received from applicants wishing to operate in Gwynedd, asking for over £51 million of UKSPF funding.
Cyngor Gwynedd selected which applicants were invited to submit a detailed project application, advised by a partnership of local stakeholders (Gwynedd Shared Prosperity Fund Advisory Group) consisting of representatives from the public, private, education and third sectors reflecting the breadth of activity possible by the UKSPF.
The detailed project applications were evaluated thoroughly by Gwynedd Shared Prosperity Fund officers during July 2023 with the following key considerations:
- Alignment of proposals with priority of investments and interventions of the UKSPF
- Outputs and expected outcomes of proposals
- How the proposals add to existing activity and provision, and show evidence of engagement with other relevant organisations
- Ability and capacity of the applicant to deliver the project (including awareness of legal and regulatory requirements)
- Alignment of proposals with local, regional, and national needs
- Understanding of the needs of the local areas in which they intend to operate,
- Views of relevant stakeholders within the activity areas
Consideration was also given to the overall range of activity, and the geographical dispersion of proposals throughout the county.
