Blaenau Ffestiniog town regeneration project

This project supported 13 businesses to develop through new “shop fronts” and significant improvements have been made to the town centre. In 2013 the public conveniences were upgraded and a marketing campaign was launched called “Blaenau Ffestiniog – From the Rock.”

The project also excelled in social benefits with significant benefits gained for the local community and residents.

Background

The Blaenau Ffestiniog Town Regeneration project was centred on putting Blaenau Ffestiniog back on the map, and ensuring that the town is a great place to live and to visit.

The project endeavoured to protect the unique culture and heritage of the town, and maximise its potential using its most important assets – its people, language and landscape.

The project focused on:

  • creating a suitable environment to support local businesses
  • sustainable future growth and investment
  • creating a quality visitor destination
  • linking together the key attractions of the town and its immediate area.

The vision was to: "Create an exciting, vibrant and attractive place to live, work and to visit, renowned for culture and the arts, our strong sense of community and the stunning environment.  The town built on these unique characteristics in a sustainable manner in order to achieve economic, social and environmental regeneration.
