Parking your motor home during the day

Motor homes can park at any one of Cyngor Gwynedd’s car parks during the day.

However, please note that there are height barriers at the following car parks meaning that larger motor homes will NOT be able to access them:

  • Llyn Bach Porthmadog
  • Stryd Lombard, Porthmadog
  • Morannedd, Criccieth
  • Ffordd Caerdydd, Pwllheli
  • Pen y Gogledd, Abermaw
  • Colwyn Banc, Beddgelert

Please ensure that two pay and display tickets are purchased if your Vehicle does not fit within the marked bays.


Parking your motorhome overnight - Arosfan

The Council is developing 4 specific sites for motor homes to stay overnight. The following sites are now available:

  • Y Maes Car Park, Cricieth (LL52 0BT);
  • Y Glyn, Llanberis (LL55 4TY);

Other sites will shortly be available at:

  • Cei’r Gogledd, Pwllheli (LL53 5YR);
  • Doc Fictoria Car Park (old Shell site), Caernarfon (LL55 1SQ).

The Arosfan sites (similar to Aires on the continent) are located within walking distance of towns and key destinations.

 

Price

£16.50 per night (4pm until 10am following morning).

Pay at the nearest pay and display machine or via the Paybyphone App or YourParkingSpace at Y Glyn Arosfan, Llanberis.

(note that there is a small service charge for paying via the app)

maximum of 2 subsequent nights only and no return is allowed within 7 days.

The sites include facilities for fresh water, chemical waste water, recycling and general waste (details below).


 

Frequently asked questions

Only self-contained motor homes with on-board facilities are permitted to park overnight on the Arosfan site. 

You must have an on-board toilet and water facilities (i.e. no external containers). 

Sleeping in any vehicle in any other part of the car park or any car park that is not part of the Arosfan scheme is not permitted.

No, if you vacate the bay on the Arosfan site, it will be deemed vacant and open for other users. Reserving vacated bays is not permitted. 

Transferring Arosfan tickets is not permitted. Displaying a ticket and displaying and/or using a ticket on another vehicle may result in a Penalty Charge Notice.

No, the bays are available on a first come, first served basis. Reservation or booking in advance is not permitted.

No, the fees for the Arosfan are consistent for all users, and there are no concessions for blue badge holders wishing to use the Arosfan site.

You’re asked to park in the middle of the designated parking bay. This will maintain a minimum 6 metre spacing between the motor home vehicles. 

Overnight parking is only permitted in the Arosfan bays. Parking in another location on the site, failing to park in the designated bay ot causing obstruction may lead to a Penalty Charge Notice. 

The fee of £16:50 covers the period from 16:00 to 10:00 the following morning only. If parking in the bays during the day (10:00 to 16:00), then the regular fees as displayed on the signs in the car-park apply.

Ensure that you empty your grey waste and chemical waste using the service point as instructed on-site. 

Leave no trace. Use the recycling and waste facilities provided. Do not leave bags of waste on-site if the bins are full.

Yes, you can access fresh water from the Service Point – see details on site. Remember to ensure that you have attached hose pipe before activation.

As motor homes are self-contained, the aim of the Arosfan sites is not to provide a camping facility. 

Therefore, barbequing or cooking outside the vehicle will not be permitted.

Be respectful of residents and surrounding environment. Dogs should be kept on a lead and other pets must always be kept under proper control. 

As motor homes are self-contained, the Arosfan sites are not aimed to provide a camping facility. Remember that there are several private camping sites in Gwynedd where it is possible to stay in a motor home. 

No tables, chairs or sun loungers are permitted outside the vehicle. Awnings, canopies or wind-breakers along with washing lines are not permitted. 

You are asked to keep noise down to a minimum – no radios, music etc. 

You may deploy a step for access to the vehicle, and levelling ramps are allowed if you can drive on and off them. 

Motor homes can park in any of Cyngor Gwynedd's car parks, but sleeping overnight in any car park, apart from the specific Arosfan sites is not permitted.

Overnight stays on the side of the road / private land

Overnight stays are not permitted on any part of the highway, including lay-bys, or on private land (unless you have permission from the landowner)
