Enabling Funds

Cyngor Gwynedd has established four Enabling Funds funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund to distribute sums under £250,000, which will allow smaller schemes from businesses, enterprises and communities to benefit. 

Administrator: CYNGOR GWYNEDD
Total UKSPF Gwynedd funding: £1,800,000 
Project summary: A competitive grant fund that will be a means of supporting local organisations, including initiatives and regeneration groups, to be able to lead and develop projects that respond to local needs and priorities.

The Fund consists of three different levels of grants - Capital and Revenue between £25k and £200k, Revenue between £25k and £75k and small grants under £25k. There was an open call during June and July 2023 for enterprises across Gwynedd to submit grant applications for the development of regeneration projects within their communities. Applications were received totalling over £5 million.
Community Regeneration Support Fund

Project summary: 
The project aims to promote culture and heritage, physical well-being and healthy living, and develop a sustainable visitor economy. The Diwyllesiant program is delivered as a cross-service project within Cyngor Gwynedd, which aims to operate across three priority areas - Culture and Heritage, Healthy and Active Living, and the Sustainable Visitor Economy – for the benefit of, and to support the well-being of Gwynedd residents, communities, businesses, and environment. 

The Fund includes three strands available to non-profit organisations and enterprises in Gwynedd. £350k has been allocated for the Culture and Heritage Fund, and £250k each allocated for the Events Fund and the Healthy and Active Living Fund.  
Culture and Heritage, Events, Healthy Living and Active Support Fund

Project summary: 
The purpose of the project is to provide Gwynedd businesses with the help, information, and financial support that they need to start, develop, and thrive. There are five work streams in the package, offering the most appropriate support to the County's businesses, namely:

  • Implementing Cyngor Gwynedd’s business engagement strategy,
  • Community Catalysts Project,
  • Recharge Project,
  • Digital Platform Project, and
  • Business Support Fund

The Business Support Fund offers two different strands available to businesses – Business Development Funds (Spark and Transformation) and Property Improvement Grants. A total of £1.7million is available to support businesses, which is a combination of UKSPF funding, a direct contribution from Cyngor Gwynedd, and a contribution from the Welsh Government.  

The fund has now been paused - it was possible to apply for small grants under £25k and grants between £25k and £250k for each type of grant.  There was an open call from August 2023 for businesses across Gwynedd to submit grant applications, and applications totalling over £10.7 million were received.
Business Support Fund

Project summary: 
The Fund offers funding opportunities of between £2k and £250k to voluntary or community groups located in Gwynedd.  A wide variety of groups and projects will present different activities with a cross section of communities/people benefiting. 

There was an open call during September 2023 for enterprises across Gwynedd to submit grant applications, and applications totalling over £4.9 million were received.
