Encouraging people to enjoy Gwynedd's coast safely this Easter
Date: 04/04/2023
Spring is upon us and sunny weather is forecast for Easter so Cyngor Gwynedd is reminding everyone who will be enjoying Gwynedd’s coastline and beaches over the holidays to do so safely and to take every care.
Gwynedd’s shores are renowned for their beauty and wealth of nature, but it’s important that everyone who visits is aware of the dangers of the coast and treats the natural environment with respect.
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for the Economy and Community Department said: "With significant numbers of local people and visitors coming to our wonderful beaches every year, we want to make sure that everyone enjoys themselves safely by thinking about their own safety and that of others around them.
"We would remind people to plan their visit to the seaside by checking the weather forecast, being aware of the tides and to treat the sea with respect.
"Even though the sun is shining the sea can be extremely cold at this time of year, so be careful if you are considering going into the water and make sure you follow all the safety instructions. Do not risk bathing if you are not confident that you are able to swim to shore safely and remember to tell someone where you are going. If you are sailing, then please ensure that you have all safety equipment on board and be considerate of others by complying with navigation rules".
Bryn Pritchard-Jones from Gwynedd Council's Maritime Service added: "Our message is for people to enjoy the beach safely and to treat Gwynedd’s coast with respect.
“We would also ask people to be courteous to other visitors and the local community. For example, please be considerate if you come to the beach in a car or other vehicle – if the car park is full, think about going to another beach or attraction. Those who park irresponsibly and block roads near the beach will make it difficult for emergency services vehicles should they need to access the area.
"Please remember to dispose of your rubbish responsibly by either putting it in a public bin or take it home. Littering or not picking up your dog's waste makes our communities messy, can cause accidents to other people and is harmful to the environment. Please think of others around you."
