Unique collection of video clips at Gwynedd Libraries
Date: 03/07/2023
BFI (British Film Institute) Replay's digital archive of video clips is now available at your local library, and all for free!
It’s not possible to watch the clips anywhere other than on computers in a public library, and Gwynedd Libraries are proud to be part of this innovative scheme.
The archive, which includes digitized videos from a number of partners including the National Library of Wales, will ensure that the extensive collection is available to users for years to come.
This unique resource gives the public access to the nation’s archive through moving images. It is a living digital archive that will grow and evolve as new clips continue to be added.
It will give users the opportunity to research and enjoy a collection of thousands of videos dating from the 1960s to the 2010s. You can watch content that is relevant to Gwynedd such as the'Lwmp o Jaman' animation by pupils of Ysgol Maesincla, Caernarfon or watch the journey of the last steam train from Bala to Blaenau Ffestiniog – there is something for everyone!
Councillor Nia Jeffreys, Deputy Leader of Gwynedd Council and Cabinet Member for Economic and Community Development with responsibility for the Libraries Service, said: “It’s great to see that Gwynedd Libraries are at the forefront of this scheme, and I’m sure Gwynedd Library users will benefit greatly from it.
“It will be an excellent opportunity for residents to relive events bridging the generations. It will also enable people to do research and inspire the next generation to take an interest in their local archives and discover how politics, ideology and television have shaped our lives.”
