Cyngor Gwynedd's stand at the National Eisteddfod set to be a hive of activity

There will be warm welcome for people from all parts of Wales and beyond o Caban and Tipi Gwynedd, Cyngor Gwynedd’s stalls at the Llŷn ac Eifionydd National Eisteddfod (5-12 August, 2023). The Caban and Tipi will be located near the Eisteddfod Maes main entrance. 

Exhibitions and activities of all kinds will be held at both Caban Gwynedd and in the Tipi throughout the festival with one main theme highlighted each day. Events will be a celebration of Gwynedd at its best and a shop window for many of the services Cyngor Gwynedd provides to all county residents and visitors.  

 

Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn, Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd, said: "The Eisteddfod is the perfect opportunity for us to highlight and celebrate what Gwynedd has to offer and meet residents and visitors for a chat.  

 

"I encourage Eisteddfod-goers to drop by Caban Gwynedd and the Tipi to say hello and enjoy the hive of activity which will be on offer."

Saturday, 5 August 2023 

 

• 11.30am-12.30pm – Young Carers: An opportunity to share information, have a chat and promote the AIDI app with Young Carers.  
• 2.30-3.30pm – Sports Memories: Session led by Gwynedd's Dementia Actif team. 

 

Sunday, 6 August 2023 – Green Gwynedd day 

 

An opportunity to find out more about how the Council is protecting the county's natural beauty and responding positively to the climate change crisis. Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 11.30am-12.30pm – Cooking Session: How to make the most of the food you have, with chef Rhian Cadwaladr and Gwenllian Roberts from the Council's Recycling and Waste Service.  
• 2pm – Article 4 discussion: Panel session to talk about changes to planning legislation to manage the impact of second homes and short-term holiday accommodation on communities. 
• 3-4pm – Wildflowers and discovering the pollinators: Activities for all the family and wildflower seeds to take home with you to plant.  
• Competitions: There will be a competition to design a logo for the Council's electric vehicles, and a food quiz where there will be a chance to win a slow cooker and an air fryer. 

 

Monday, 7 August 2023 – Homely Gwynedd day 

 

An opportunity to find out more about how the Council supports the people of Gwynedd to live in suitable and affordable homes within their communities. Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 10-11am – Cost of Living Support: Drop-in session for help with household energy costs. 
• 11.30am Presentation - How is Gwynedd Council tackling the housing crisis? There will be an opportunity to ask questions to the panel, which will include Councillor Craig ab Iago and officers from the Council's Housing and Property Department.  
• 1pm Launch - Revised Empty Housing Grants Scheme. Former second homes are now eligible for the grant, thanks to changes to the scheme.   
• 5-6pm – Housing needs support – Drop-in session for the people of Gwynedd to find out about the schemes available from the Council. 

 

Tuesday, 8 August 2023 – Tomorrow’s Gwynedd day   

 

Discover more about how the Council is giving children and young people in the county the best possible start in life. Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 11-11.30am – Show: Fun-filled performance with Anni Llŷn and Tudur Phillips  
• 2-2.45pm Launch – Informal session accompanied by Julie Morgan MP, Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Social Services to launch extension of Gwynedd Childcare Scheme for two-year-olds. 
• 4.30pm-5pm - Llŷn ac Eifionydd Eisteddfod Film and Animation Project: An opportunity to watch films created by children from the Eisteddfod area. 

 

Wednesday, 9 August – Prosperous Gwynedd Day  

 

An opportunity to find out more about how the Council is strengthening the economy and supporting Gwynedd residents to earn a decent salary.  

 

Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 10-11:30am - Busnes@Gwynedd: Gwynedd Producers - Daloni Metcalfe and Lesley Griffiths MP, Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, chat to some of Gwynedd's businesses about their products, services and their relationship with the Welsh language.   
• 11.30am-12.30pm - ARFOR Programme: Launch with leaders of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire councils along with Vaughan Gething MP, Minister for Economy and Cefin Cambell MP. A discussion facilitated by Llyr Roberts, Chief Executive of Menter a Busnes, will follow regarding the challenges facing ARFOR region communities and how the programme can respond.  
• 12.30-1pm: Gwaith Gwynedd - A fun activity and drop-in session for Gwynedd young people (16-24).  
• 3pm - 4pm - Sustainable Tourism: A discussion facilitated by Lord Dafydd Wigley, accompanied by the Rt Hon Mark Drakeford MP, First Minister of Wales, on what Sustainable Tourism is. How can we ensure that there is a benefit to local communities and what is the importance of our culture and heritage to the visitor economy? 

 

Thursday, August 10 – A Welsh Gwynedd day 

 

An opportunity to find out more about how the Council gives our residents every possible opportunity to use Welsh in the community. Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 11am-12pm - Welsh Place Names: Discussion Panel on how Welsh place names can be protected.  
• 3-4pm – Prosiect 15: 'TED' Style Talk, 'Women who inspire' (plus various activities throughout the week, for example a joke competition) 
• 4-4.30pm – Menter Iaith Gwynedd: Launch of the new language initiative. 

 

Friday, August 11 – Caring Gwynedd day 

 

Discover more about how the Council supports Gwynedd residents to live full and safe lives in their communities. Some of the highlights of the day will be: 

 

• 11am-12pm – From the heart: Foster carers from across Gwynedd chat about their experiences of fostering and the reasons that led them to become foster carers. 
• 12-1pm – Job Opportunities: Session about job opportunities in childcare. 
• 4.45-5.45pm – “Lleisiau Llawen” Choir: A chance to see and hear the Makaton choir perform some of their favourite songs. 

 

Saturday, August 12  

 

• 11.30am-12.30pm - Dementia - “In my hands”: A session led by Gwynedd's Dementia Actif team to raise awareness about the effects of Dementia. 
• 1-2pm – Discover the song: A musical and creative session led by the William Mathias Music Centre with a group of adults with learning disabilities.
