Tai ar Daith: Cyngor Gwynedd housing event visits Caernarfon
Cyngor Gwynedd invites Gwynedd residents to the first of a series of ‘Tai ar Daith’ drop-in events throughout the County in Caernarfon on 18 April. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the various available housing schemes to ensure that the people of Gwynedd have access to a suitable home which is of a high standard, affordable and improves their quality of life.
The first session will be held at the Byw’n Iach Arfon centre between 3-6.30pm, then the series of events will continue to Pwllheli and Dolgellau over the next few weeks.
During the events, representatives from the Council and key partners will be on hand to provide key information and support about housing-related projects, encouraging open and constructive conversations about individuals' housing situations. This will include details about grants and loans available to help Gwynedd residents buy a home, schemes to increase the housing supply throughout Gwynedd and projects to tackle homelessness in the County, among many more.
As well as resources to share information, attendees will have access to specialist advice on issues such as social housing, energy, and cost of living help. Staff will be available to help with any issue related to housing, from filling in forms to discussing general issues, ensuring that all attendees receive support that suits their personal needs.
A wide range of Council services will be represented at the event, including:
- Cost of Living helpEmpty houses
- Energy
- Family information
- Homeshare
- Homelessness
- Housing development
- Housing options
- Planning
Housing partners such as Housing Associations and Arfor will also be present, alongside partners involved in housing projects in specific areas.
These events form part of the Council's £140 million Housing Action Plan to address the County's housing shortage and ensure that the residents of Gwynedd have access to high quality affordable housing in their own communities.
Councillor Craig ab Iago, Cyngor Gwynedd Housing and Property Cabinet Member said:
“As we continue to tackle the housing crisis, it’s vitally important that the people of Gwynedd know what support is available to them. Since the lockdown period, the engagement for the Council's housing plans has mostly taken place remotely but the time has come for us to go the extra mile and reach out to people in communities throughout Gwynedd.
“The purpose of these events is to allow experienced officers to talk directly with the people of the county. The Council is here to support you – by attending this event, you will have the opportunity to openly discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding housing, big or small.”
Carys Fôn Williams, Head of Cyngor Gwynedd’s Housing and Property Department, said:
“These Tai ar Daith events have been organised to ensure that no one misses out on crucial housing opportunities. A great deal of work has been going on over the last few years to tackle the County's housing shortage and this is an opportunity for you to see how we can help you.
“Come and talk to us about homelessness, about bringing empty houses back into use, about building new homes, about loans, and let us know about your needs and concerns. It’s possible that there is more help available from the Council and its partners than you might think.”
