How do I vote in an election?
You will receive a polling card through the post in the weeks leading up to the election. Voting details will be on the card, including your polling station.
It will help the polling clerk if you take the polling card with you to the polling station on the day but you can vote without it.
If you have not received your polling card before the election contact us by calling 01766 771000.
Your polling station
The location of your polling station will be noted on your voting card. To find the location of your polling station enter your post code:
Opening hours for all polling stations on election day are 07:00 – 22:00.
The polling clerk can explain this to you on the day.
If you have requested a postal vote, information will be provided in the ballot pack that will be sent to you.
We try to ensure that our polling stations are accessible but this is not always possible.
Staff at the polling stations give us feedback on the accessibility of the buildings after each election.
This information is used when we review polling stations in future.
If you have any matters you would like to raise regarding the accessibility of polling stations contact us on 01766 771000.
If you can’t get to the polling station on election day for whatever reason (illness, on holiday etc.), you can cast an absent vote. There are 2 types of absent vote:
You will need to show an approved form of photo ID at polling stations when there is a Police and Crime Commissioner election; and an UK Parliamentary election (from October 2023).
