Llanbedr: Improving transport
Cyngor Gwynedd is collaborating with partners to identify a transport solution to alleviate traffic problems in Llanbedr.
Whilst a previous scheme was developed some years ago, following the decision made by the Welsh Government not to continue with the financial support due to the roads review, it was not possible to continue with the scheme at that time.
Whilst the current process we are following takes time, we believe that this is the correct method to ensure we fully comply with Welsh Government guidance for developing Transport projects, as well as ensuring that we are complying fully with a variety of other legislation.
Non-compliance with the processes and legislation would cause substantial risk to the project, which could set the scheme back even further.
The process we are following as part of the work is the Welsh Transport Appraisal Guidance (WelTAG). According to the Welsh Government “WelTAG should be used in the development and appraisal of transport proposals promoted or funded by Welsh Government” View more information.
Local stakeholder involvement is essential to the development of this scheme and specialist company WSP has been commissioned to lead on this work on our behalf along with the WelTAG process. They have held two workshops in Llanbedr and have held constructive discussions as part of the process.
Cyngor Gwynedd, Welsh Government and Transport for Wales meet every month as a working group of officers to report and discuss the transport work in Llanbedr. Updates from this group is communicated to the community through Local Councillors Annwen Hughes and Gwynfor Owen along with Llanbedr Community Council, mainly through regular Newsletters.
